S.M.A.R.T.E.R.
If you want to be something, there is a SMARTER way to establish your goals. This is a system I have developed to maintain health and happiness and create a lifetime of success. The characteristics of this new system are a better fit for goals that guide you in striving to be something.
Each of the seven letters in the word SMARTER stands for a characteristic of being goals and each will be discussed in the following chapters. SMARTER goals are:
- Simple
- Meaningful
- Altruistic
- Reasonably balanced
- Timeless
- Emotionally stabilizing
- Relationship building
This novel method of setting goals has been researched, developed, and tested over a ten-year period and will undoubtedly continue to evolve. Although it is original, it is based on ancient and time-tested ideas.

praying to have a place reserved in heaven, pray that you will be worthy of admission. |

struggling to have the power of a king, be kind to all creatures and the kingdom will be yours. |

just increasing your net worth, increase your net worthiness. |
The differences between setting goals to have something with the SMART technique and setting goals to be something with the SMARTER system are substantial. If you glean only one idea from reading this book, let it be this:
Understanding the difference between setting a goal to be something and setting a goal to have something can determine your health and happiness, and ultimately your success.
When you break from traditional thoughts of success, when you no longer measure success by what you have or control, money and power become less important, and yet, almost like magic, they become more abundant.
The SMARTER way to think about success involves understanding your own definition of success and happiness, controlling your future by controlling your thoughts, and by setting goals that are simple, meaningful, altruistic, reasonably balanced, timeless, emotionally stabilizing, and relationship building.
